American Mutoscope Company
This company was founded by W.K.L. Dickson in December 1895 after his break with Thomas Edison, making it often described as the first or oldest film studio in America. It merged with the British Biograph Company in 1899, changing its name to American Mutoscope and Biograph (hence all relevant productions after that date are listed under that title); in 1909 it once again became known simply as the Biograph Company. A currently active company under that name is a new venture and has no relationship to the original Biograph, which ceased functioning in the 1920s.
