Chester Clawson wanted to make a film to encompass the entire history of the Book of Mormon. This project only yielded The First Nephi Movie. According to Randy Astle, the First Presidency approved the script but when the Clawsons could not pay for the screenplay, William Morton undertook to produce the film himself with the help of Anton J. T. Sorensen, William J. Burns, and others. Only 40 hand-painted slides Sorensen used in an illustrated lecture remain of the film (one of which is shown above--Nephi asking Laban for the brass plates).
