The first part of this program is a national overview of the economic and environmental impact that "big box" retail stores, such as Wal-Mart, have on local communities in the United States. Controversies surrounding the introduction of Wal-Mart stores into California communities serve as illustrations. The second part of this program is a special report of the controversies surrounding the introduction of Wal-Mart and other superstores into Utah communities like Centerville and Sandy. A panel discussion highlights the issues in the debate in the Special report.
